Advanced Analysis Specialist #1171
Location: East Coast
Salary: 100-140K
Role:
- Fulfill a global and/or regional plant equipment technical specialist consulting position supporting multiple refineries
- Provide in depth technical leadership and support related to petrochemicals processing units/equipment with a focus on troubleshooting, asset improvement, technology selection, research, and standards development
- Reports to the Equipment Technology Section Head
Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Respond to plant operational events and/or equipment problems
- Determine when use of advanced analysis methods is appropriate/ justified
- Perform equipment analysis using advanced analysis methods to address problems with plasticity, creep and fatigue in processing equipment due to plant normal operation and upset events
- Assist sites in application of advanced analysis methodology and tools
- Provide global and/or regional technical leadership via involvement (participation / facilitation) in formal technical networks / work groups
- Develop and deliver technical training for plant engineering organizations
- Support major capital projects and provide leadership in the areas of design consulting and technical quality assurance
- Develop and maintain technical standards & guidelines
- Conduct research to deliver technology advantages to refinery and chemical plant operations in the areas of equipment design, maintenance and reliability
Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering or Applied Mechanics
- Pressure vessel and piping engineering experience required – preferably with an operating company or engineering contractor (petrochemical or other heavy industry experience strongly desired)
- Extensive experience with application of advanced analysis tools in performing detailed static, dynamic and heat transfer analysis of complex mechanical equipment/systems
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Industry standards (ASME & API) associated with pressure equipment (vessels, heat exchangers, piping, valves, tanks, etc)
- Pressure equipment design and repair
- Application of Fitness for Service (FFS) methods
- Familiar with materials selection, welding processes and NDE methods
- Proficient with both general and special purpose finite element analysis software (ABAQUS, ANSYS, etc) and piping stress analysis software (e.g. CAESAR)
- 3D CAD software (Pro-Engineer, Solidworks, etc)
- Capable of programming in Fortran
- Understanding of primary and secondary stresses and associated limits (e.g. ASME Section VIII Division 2, Part 5 Analysis Methods and Criteria)
- Understanding of fatigue and creep life evaluation for pressure equipment
